Top 10

The top ten things we love about Emmy Cate right now …

10.  Your knowing little grin that you give “Poodle” and “Pony” while riding in style in your carseat.

9. That little dimple on your left cheek that pops out every time you smile.

8. Your completely hyper {and somewhat disturbing :) } reaction to taking all of your clothes off before the bath.  You kick and wiggle and grin with eyes as big as saucers!!

7.  Daddy gets to look in the mirror every time he sees you!  You look just like him!

6. Your innocent and bewildered expression when we try to feed you rice cereal in the mornings.

5. Your constant and sometimes very loud cooing when you are in the Baby Bjorn walking around in a store.  You can typically draw quite a crowd with all of that “talking”!!

4.  That look you give us when we are both laughing hysterically at something you did.  Your little face just says “What?  What is so darn funny?”

3.  Falling sound asleep in the Baby Bjorn with your head slumped forward.  You love being carried around in the Bjorn!

2. Your gummy, toothless grins first thing in the morning when you are laying in the crib waiting for someone to just grab you up and cuddle you.

1. Your chubby little fingers grabbing on to us whenever we are in your reach.  Your little hands and feet are so cute we could just eat them up!

And because it just wouldn’t be a post without a pic or video of the little munchkin, here is a clip of her very first time in the jumper seat.  Make sure your volume is up to catch her side of the conversation!!

Eat, eat, eat!!

Emmy Cate is such a big girl!  This weekend, she had her first taste of real food (if you can call rice cereal that!)  Needless to say, she was a little baffled by the whole process!  However, we thought the whole thing was hilarious, as you can see {hear} from the video and our incessant laughter in the background!  The cereal was a little thick but that made for a much funnier reaction!!  She is an absolute mess!!  Her reactions are priceless and I just can’t wait to do it again tomorrow!!  Practice makes perfect and she’ll get the hang of it soon!!

4 Month Check-up

Emmy Cate went to the doctor today for her 4 month visit and she is doing great!!  The vital stats are her weight was 14lbs. 12ozs., which puts her in the 75th percentile, her height was 26”, which puts her in the 97th percentile, and her head circumference was 41cm, which is the 50th percentile.

She has hit all of her developmental milestones so far with the exception of laughing and rolling from front to back.  That little stinker wants to laugh so hard but she only gets out a “half laugh” and will not yet giggle.  Daddy has been getting some seriously cute reactions from her the last couple of days, so she isn’t going to be able to hold out much longer!!  As far as the rolling over part, we do have to take a minute to brag a bit about how impressed the doctor was that EC can roll from back to front and did so when she was only 2.5 months old.  Apparently the average age for that is 6 months!!  Wow – go EC!!  The average age to roll from front to back is 4 months, so she isn’t really behind there.  Other things that she was ahead of the curve on were bearing weight on her legs and being able to grab objects pretty well.  She also sits up with support well and so the doc okayed her to start rice cereal and oatmeal!  That will be a riot, I’m sure!

Poor baby also had to get another round of shots again and it was not a pretty sight!!  It’s hard to say who cried more – EC or Mom!  J/K – She did cry but only for a couple of minutes.

Other than that, today is the first day of fall and so we are all a little sad that summer is over.  However, since the summer stuff is on sale now at Target, we stocked up for next summer!!  She is all ready to get out on the lake!!

Rain, rain go away!!

We made it back to Atlanta safe and sound and seriously need to build an ark over here.  I don’t think I’ve seen this much rain ever in my life.  Just in the last 24 hours, we have had something like 12 inches.  It has been crazy!!  We had to dud Emmy Cate up in her “raingear” to venture out today because we were so stir crazy from staying indoors.  Here she is peeking outside wondering if it’s a good idea to go out.  Turns out it was a terrible idea!!  It rained cats and dogs the whole day and it took us 45 minutes to get home from a store that was about 2 miles away since the road in front of our neighborhood was closed and the other way around was packed with traffic.  Then, when we got home, Daddy was diving in water to unclog storm drains and was generally a mess!!  Some of the neighbor’s houses flooded and pools overflowed and Nathan had to help a few people bail out their homes!  We were lucky and escaped only a little water seeping in under a door in the basement.  What a mess!!

The Bluff City …. Part 3

We’re still hanging out in Memphis!!  Emmy Cate has gone through a rough few days but I think she is back to her old self now, which is fortunate before she drives mommy to the edge!  :)  We will be headed back home this weekend to reunite with Daddy and Bits.  Pro and DeDe aren’t going to know what to do once she leaves and there is no crying babbling around the house.  Here is Pro “being strongly encouraged” volunteering to hold her:

New home of AI …. Part 2

Emmy Cate has been a busy bee in Memphis this week running around with Mommy and DeDe, and also visiting with Mamaw McDaniel.

Here she is working on her giggling:

EC laugh

Today, we went to the Germantown Festival.  I haven’t been there in probably 15 years, so it was a stroll down memory lane to go back.  DeDe and I ate “carney food” and checked out all of the cute booths with kids clothes, jewelry, crafts, food, etc.  The weather was beautiful and not as hot as in many years past.  Emmy Cate enjoyed being outdoors and seeing all of the other kids running around.  We saw many tiny little ones and other kids of all ages.  There was a huge kid activity play area and so maybe in a couple of years EC can take advantage of all of that fun!!  We didn’t snap a pick until we were leaving and EC was wearing down at this point:

The Land of the Delta Blues … part 1

Emmy Cate is visiting her grandparents DeDe and Pro in Memphis this week.  She is getting plenty of attention and cuddle time and has been really working on her laugh.  She really wants to giggle over everything but sometimes she just manages a “fake cough” sound that is hilarious.  She also loves to blow bubbles and coo, and really acts like a complete ham most of the time these days when she has an audience!!

Letter to Mom and Dad

Dear Mommy and Daddy,

I have decided that putting my hands in my mouth is no longer providing me with ample opportunity to drool all over myself.  As such, I have discovered that if I grab things with my little chubby hands I can find an endless number of things to put in my mouth.  This causes maximum salivation which is essential for soaking the front of my outfit.

Yours Drooly,

Emmy Cate

EC and rattle {A picture wouldn’t be complete without a sparkling drop of drool on her chin!!}
