Sick Day

Emmy Cate had her first official sick day and had to stay home from school.  :(  Her teacher called yesterday and said she had a fever and was just pitiful.  Nathan sprinted off to get her and he took her straight to the doc.  It turned out she had an ear infection in her left ear.  Nothing a little amoxicillin can’t clear up!!  So, only about 12 days into my new job, I had to take the afternoon off today to watch her.

Thankfully, Emmy Cate had a pretty good day today.  Dad said the morning was a little rough, but she was a real sweetheart this afternoon and evening.  I think it’s back to school in the morning.  Both Nathan and I aren’t feeling 100% either but we are resting up for a VERY exciting weekend!!  We planned a last minute trip to Hilton Head for Friday and Saturday night.  Not only will this be my first night spent away from home in 7 months (ridiculous), but it will be the very first (and second) night spent away from Emmy Cate!  I’m not sure I’ll even know how to act.  Hopefully, I am still capable of sleeping in past 7 in the mornings!  I plan to take full advantage!!

Flying Solo

This weekend, Daddy was away at a friend’s bachelor party in Fort Lauderdale so Emmy Cate and I were on our own.  We had a lot of catching up to do since we barely saw each other this past week.  It was my first full week of work and I had business dinners two nights in a row!  I think it’s safe to say that Emmy Cate missed me!!  When I picked her up on Friday and got her home, she spent about 10 minutes just laying on me with her head down on my shoulder while I rubbed her back.  Those of you who know Emmy Cate know that she will absolutely not cuddle so this was definitely not normal for her!  I’ve never spent a single night away from her so I can’t imagine what she would do if I went on a trip without her!!

Anyway, we didn’t do much this weekend … it’s too crazy hot to do much outside and I wasn’t feeling up to the task of taking her to the pool alone.  Since she started walking, she is out of control at the pool “running” around everywhere and she won’t let you hold her.  There are so many people there so it’s very hard to keep track of her by yourself.

Back to Work

So, as many of you know, I recently landed myself a brand spanking new job.  You heard right, no more diapers and musical toys, I’m going back to the land of high heels and watercooler gossip.  For those that haven’t heard, I took a job in Buckhead at a company called Air Serv Corporation.  They provide a lot of the peripheral services to airlines at airports around the nation and internationally.  The job market has really had a fire lit under it in the past month which means jobs have been coming at me left and right.  After much deliberation and plenty of interviews and phone conversations, I landed at the best fit (*I think* – I’ve only been there 2 days!!)    It should be a pretty decent gig, mostly because I am expecting to work pretty close to a 40 hour week.  For my profession, this is almost UNHEARD of!

Emmy Cate is going to school at a private Christian school that is a few minutes from the house.  Being the social butterfly that she is, she loves getting to interact with the other kids.  Also, she is now walking exclusively so that’s good news for her poor knees!!  She is still moving slowly and so we haven’t had to chase her much YET.  However, she does want to get down everywhere to walk around when we are out so that has been a challenge!

Emmy Cate also wants to wish all the dads a very HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!!!

Bye Bye Baby, Hello …

TODDLER!!!!

Emmy Cate wants to walk all of the time now!  She decided to put her mind to it and is loving toddling around.  And toddling it is!!  Soo unsteady, but her determination will eventually win.  She still crawls to somewhere she really wants to go because it’s quicker for now, but we know that too will end.  And she likes to tell you all about it too!!  She is so proud of herself, she “talks” the whole time!

I’m not sure how well you can see her face in this video but her forehead and nose is completely scraped and red from falling out on the pavement outside today after one attempt to walk!!

One Year Portrait

Recently, we enlisted the help of a wonderful local photographer, Patricia Gagne, and had some portraits of Emmy Cate made.  We are VERY happy with how they all turned out!  Patricia’s backyard is so beautiful and she has many wonderful settings – a flower garden, a shady glen with garden gate, a duck pond with dock, and a forest bench.

It was pretty easy for me to choose the one that will be made into the large portrait.  It just jumped out at me!  Patricia’s style is a hybrid between a photograph and an oil painting.  The finished product will have a painted look on the background and clothing but certain elements, like the face will mostly be the original photo quality.  I can’t wait to see how it turns out.

Of course, there were other cute ones we just couldn’t pass up, so we will have to order a few more smaller photos.  And if anyone else is interested in having one … or two … or three (that’s you grandmothers!!), then let me know!!

Here are my 5 favorite ones … the top one will be the large portrait!
